Urgent Care

Urgent care is classified as a walk-in medical clinic. This style of clinic is typically used for injuries and conditions that aren’t life-threatening enough to merit a trip to the emergency room.

GET CARE NOW

It is easy to confuse an emergency from an urgency, especially under the stress that comes along with being ill. Urgent Care only admits patients whose health condition requires medical attention within a 24-hour time-lapse. Booking and waiting for an appointment is not ideal due to the gravity of their condition. In contrast to the ER, Urgent Care treats patients who are not under life-threatening conditions.

Urgent Care vs Emergency Room

As the demand for medical services grows, the need for medical care centers also grow. As patients, we can save a lot of time and effort by identifying the difference between the Emergency Room and Urgent Care. Here is how:

•Time Efficiency. One of the most significant issues that medical facilities face is time efficiency. Patients receive medical services depending on their current health state. Priority is given to those under life-threatening conditions. Critical conditions, which can jeopardize the life of a person, are treated in the emergency room. This should not be confused with the Urgent Care center. Time efficiency is affected by patients who visit the ER under Urgent Care symptoms.

•Medical Bills. The costs of medical services in the Emergency Room are higher than in Urgent Care. Usually, insurance doesn’t fully cover the services carried in the ER. Even if it is the same medical service, the charge for immediate attention is applied.

•Diagnosis. The Emergency Room serves to stabilize patients’ vital signals. The goal is to remove the patient’s health from peril. Once stable, patients might be transferred to other doctors to continue with treatment. Unlike in the ER, Urgent Care patients receive a deeper diagnosis without transfer from one doctor to another.

Conditions Treated in Urgent Care

Urgent Care is for patients who need medical services within 24 hours. Most importantly, these patients do not present any life-threatening symptoms. Some Urgent Medical Conditions are:

• Respiratory Illnesses. Colds, sore throat, strep throat, sinus infection, or bronchitis.

• Physical Discomfort. Earache, headache, fever, back or abdominal pain.

• Digestive System Illnesses. Symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, or dehydration.

• Lacerations. Minor cuts that require stitches.

• Skin Conditions. Rashes, irritation, hives, or allergic reactions.

• Fractures. Orthopedic injuries or sprained joints.

• Urinary Tract Infections
